The Longshop McCoy Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1960 to provide protection and care for its community. In 1970 the Longshop McCoy Rescue Squad was founded and we became a combination department providing Fire and EMS services. Over the years we have grown to include Fire, Rescue, Swiftwater, Dive Rescue and Recovery and other Tactical Operations not only for its immediate area, but also performing many mutual aid functions to any agency requesting our assistance. Many of our people maintain membership in both departments which allows us to switch roles as needed in emergency situations, we work as a team to provide professional quality services in the most efficent manner possible. A large percentage of our people have professional careers as firefighters, paramedics, hospital staff, and divers. Many have joined speciality teams such as the Forestry Service Strike Force, regional Haz-Mat, and the New River Valley Swiftwater Association.
